Presidents Day, Feb.17, 2013
Interfaith Moral Action on Climate
on the National Mall
An important public action in defense of our threatened Mother Earth is being organized for President's Day weekend, Sunday Feb. 17th.
This event is co-sponsored by the Sierra Club and 350.org You may also sign-up with either of them to receive updates.
Interfaith Moral Action on Climate has endorsed this event and we hope you and/or your organization will do so also and help spread the word very broadly. People of faith have a great deal to offer to those who are deeply concerned about the urgent climate crisis. All of our faith traditions emphasize the importance of care for creation and stewardship of the earth and all of its life forms.
What: The largest climate rally in history of the USA.
Where: The National Mall in Washington, D.C., including a march to the White House
When: February 17, 2013, Noon - 4:00 p.m. (please arrive by 11:30 a.m.)
From 11:30-12:30, our multifaith contingent will gather outside the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden on the National Mall (between 7th and 9th Streets SW).
Join folks from Maryland & Greater Washington Interfaith Power and Light on on the north/Mall side on the gravel pathway. The closest Metro station is L'Enfant Plaza (green, yellow, orange, or blue lines). Look for Tim Kumfer, of the Festival Center, and Rose Berger, of Sojourners, who will be carrying a large "dove" to help you find us in the crowd.
What to bring: Plan to bring a group from your congregation to join religious communities from around our area and across the country in speaking out for creation at the Forward on Climate Rally on Presidents' Day weekend. Bring congregational banners and wear congregational T-shirts.
By our strong participation on February 17th, we can make a loud statement about the growing determination of religious communities to be heard on this most deeply moral issue.
In peace, for justice and the earth,
