Lobby Day-- APRIL 24, 2012
PLEASE JOIN US
TUESDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 24
TO MAKE A MORAL CALL TO ACTION
ON THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY TO CONGRESS
Congress needs to hear directly from the people attending the IMAC events.
On Tuesday, April 24, following the Commissioning Vigil in Upper Senate Park, (see full schedule here) participants will be invited to form 6 groups. Each group will then be asked to spend the next few hours walking the halls of a different House or Senate building handing members of Congress or their staff materials describing IMAC's moral call to action on the climate emergency. A volunteer IMAC 'host' will accompany each group. Please set that time aside to join us if you can. In addition, during that same time period we encourage anyone willing to stop by the office of their Representative and Senators, hand them the IMAC materials, and let them know that they have a moral responsibility to rapidly and meaningfully address the climate emergency.
HOW TO ORGANIZE AN INTERFAITH VIGIL ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Interfaith Moral Action on Climate (interfaithactiononclimatechage.org) is calling for and encouraging local interfaith vigils calling for action on the climate crisis on April 24th or anytime during Earth week, April 21-27. Public vigils are a simple yet effective way to reach people and bring public attention to an issue. Here are some suggestions and ideas to help you organize a successful one in your area:
Who: An interfaith vigil can be initiated by an individual, a faith community, or by an already existing group. We encourage people who want to put one together to reach out to a cross-section of faith traditions. Looking at the Endorsers of Interfaith Moral Action on Climate is one way to get ideas on who might be interested. Another source would be groups working on the climate crisis who will probably know of faith-based groups, congregations, or individuals interested in this issue as a result of their work.
