Summer 2013 Climate Actions in DC and Around the Country
ACTIONS IN DC AREA
We urge everyone to support, in whatever ways you can, the following IMAC-endorsed actions being planned for the coming weeks in the Washington, DC area.
1) The 2013 Walk For Our Grandchildren - July 19th - July 27th
This week-long walk will take an intergenerational message of hope from Camp David to the White House to demand that the President reject the Keystone XL Pipeline and to call for climate action now.
Walkers from across the country are joining forces for a week of sweat, media opportunities, awareness building in local communities, and shared commitment to making change happen. Thru walkers will camp and eat together along the route while shuttles will be available to take day walkers back to their vehicles. Please note: it is not necessary to commit to the entire route to participate.

2) Stand Up Against Fossil Fuel Lies - Friday, July 26th
In the heart of downtown DC's corporate fossil fuel corridor, we will join together to Stand Up Against Fossil Fuel Lies. We're going to take nonviolent direct action to expose how the fossil fuel industry distorts the climate debate. Due to the nature of this action, specific details will not be available until a training on the evening of July 25th at a location in DC to be announced. Note, however, that there is an important role for everyone no matter if you're willing to risk arrest or to stand in support.

3) Rally at the White House Saturday, July 27th
On July 27th, we're coming together in Lafayette Park across from the White House to say to President Obama: Keep Your Promises! We will gather by the thousands with walkers from the Walk For Our Grandchildren and other partners to call upon President Obama to turn dreams into deeds by rejecting the Keystone XL Pipeline and taking steps to begin leaving fossil fuels in the ground.
Click here for more information and to sign up for the actions on either the 26th and 27th.
By supporting the actions like those outlined above, you will be adding your much-needed voice to the growing call for action to address the climate crisis based on the moral imperative of doing so.

ACTIONS IN OTHER LOCATIONS
Some actions planned for other locations are listed here.
Energy Exodus: March from Coal to Cape Wind - August 28 - Sep. 2, 2013 energyexodus.org
Details:
On August 28, 2013, a large group of New Englanders will converge in Somerset, MA, home of the largest coal-fired planet in the region. There they will begin a 6-day march to Barnstable, MA, the seat of opposition to Cape Wind, the nation’s first off-shore wind project. The march will have strong faith participation and one particular day will have a faith focus.
This historic event will dramatize the urgency with which we must turn away from a future fossil fuels and march toward a future full of sustainable jobs, clean air, healthy communities, and local, renewable energy. Along the way we will rally, sing, learn, hatch new plans, and make new friends. And by the end of our journey, we will have gained so much more than 70 miles; we will have built our movement stronger than it’s ever been before, and will have shown the way to the safe clean energy future that we so desperately need to ensure a liveable climate.
Note: August 28th is the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom (the setting for Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech).
