SUPPORT OUR CALL TO THE SMITHSONIAN:
RESTORE INTEGRITY TO MUSEUM EXHIBITS BY
CUTTING ALL TIES WITH THE FOSSIL FUEL INDUSTRY
AND FUNDERS OF CLIMATE SCIENCE DISINFORMATION
What:
http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2015/03/23/3637313/smithsonian-climate-change-koch/
An Action that
- Highlights the call of leading Scientists and Faith Leaders to cut all ties with the fossil fuel industry and funders of climate science disinformation.
- Delivers
Petition
David Koch is a major donor and exhibit sponsor at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, and a donor, exhibit sponsor and trustee on the Board of Directors at the American Museum of Natural History. David Koch’s oil and manufacturing conglomerate Koch Industries is one of the greatest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. Mr. Koch also funds a large network of climate-change-denying organizations, spending more than $67 million since 1997 to fund groups denying climate change science.
The David Koch "Hall of Human Origins" exhibit in the Museum of Natural History fails to accurately present the seriousness of the climate crisis we face, its principal cause (carbon pollution from fossil fuel extraction and burning) and the urgent need to avoid the worst impacts of global warming by replacing dirty fossil-fueled energy with clean, renewable energy.
When:
- Monday, June 15, 2015
(Exact assembly time will be posted soon)
Where:
- On the National Mall in Washington DC, outside of the Museum of Natural History - (We'll be gathering within eyeshot of the Smithsonian Metro Stop.)
Why :
- The American people trust and rely on the Smithsonian to clear up, not compound, the intentionally-concocted confusion about global warming.
- Tragically, the Museum of Natural History's David Koch Hall of Human Origins Exhibit dangerously misrepresents the seriousness of the climate crisis, making it even more difficult for the American people to know the truth so that they can act to protect themselves and their loved ones.
- It is immoral for our government, which supports the Smithsonian with Taxpayer Dollars, to stand by silently and allow the Museum of Natural History to consciously mislead the American people about the perilous consequences for all life on Earth of the fossil-fueled climate crisis.
